The Texas Rangers defeated Toronto Blue Jays at Globe Life Park, Arlington, Texas, May 15, but the game will live long in memory thanks to the moment the baseball stopped.
At the top of the eighth inning the Blue Jays' Jose Bautista was hit by a beanball from Rangers pitcher Matt Bush, with some observers speculating this was belated payback for Bautista's bat flipping antics in the deciding game of last year's American League Championship Series between the same teams.
That set the scene for Bautista, who was sent to first by the home plate umpire, to go for second and illegally slide into Rougned Odor.
Odor got his retaliation in quickly, connecting with a right cross to Bautista's jaw. This caused a bench-clearing brawl and video of the incident quickly went viral.
