Like most meteorologists, Doug developed a passion for weather at a young age. His early years were spent in the Buffalo area where he had plenty of experience with snow. Then it was off to the Midwest and their intense thunderstorms and tornadoes. For the past 26 years, it's been the Southeast U.S and its wide variety of weather. Fifteen of those years were spent in Charlotte where he got to experience his first hurricane -- "Hugo."
Before joining Spectrum News, Doug spent 10 years as a meteorologist in Jacksonville, Florida. There it was all about daily afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season. In fact Doug was the official hurricane chaser, being sent to storms like "Charlie" and "Katrina" to do live reports for his stations as well as Fox News and CNN.
Doug's very excited to be back in the Carolinas where he will get a chance to forecast all that Mother Nature has to offer. From severe storms to droughts, hurricanes to winter storms, it's a challenge he welcomes.
During his down time Doug loves to golf but also enjoys bowling, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, listening to Rush, and of course, storm chasing.
