Chris initially came to TWC News in April 2011 as a fill-in meteorologist before becoming full-time in May of 2014. Chris gained his interest and respect for weather while growing up in northern Illinois and Minnesota.
After receiving a BS in Meteorology from Northern Illinois University he worked at WORK in Rochester, New York and WCIV in Charleston, SC before moving to the Triangle in 1986 to work for WTPF TV and radio.
Chris was part of a team at WPTF-AM that stayed on-the-air all night on September 22, 1989 as Hurricane Hugo made landfall near Charleston, SC. That broadcast earned WPTF-AM awards from the South Carolina Broadcasters Association and the National Association of Broadcasters.
After WPTF Chris shifted careers and worked as an air pollution meteorologist for an environmental consulting firm in Raleigh. One of his most memorable duties there was helping set up an air pollution monitoring station in Shenandoah National Park.
Then it was back to broadcasting for a 17-year tenure at WRAL-TV. In addition to normal on-air duties, Chris covered Hurricane Fran from the coast and spent many a winter storm outside reporting “LIVE”.
In the community, Chris spent many years on the Board of Directors for the Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen in Raleigh and was one of the founding organizers of the Durham Habitat for Humanity’s Bull Moon Bicycle and Halloween Bicycle rides. He has emceed Wake County Public School’s Pieces of Gold and the Raleigh Fine Arts Society’s Choral Celebration.
In his spare time Chris likes to spend time with his wife and two daughters exploring North Carolina. He also enjoys bicycle riding, woodworking and cooking.
