From narrowing your search in the guide to starting over, in this week’s Unscrambled report Jill Urban looks at some tips and tricks to help navigate the Time Warner Cable TV interface.
With hundreds of channels to choose from, there is always something to watch on TV these days. But sometimes finding what you want to watch can be a challenge. So here are some quick tips to help you use Time Warner Cable’s On-Screen Guide to make those decisions easier. First, if you have a general idea of what you are looking for, you can filter out all the things you know you don’t want.
"Everyone knows what the guide is. We all use it. It’s very traditional. But what you might not know is that you simply can hit guide twice and you will get filters for your guide, so if you want to find your news channels or your kids channels it can narrow the guide and filter it so you can very easily find your shows," explains Alix Cottrell, G.V.P of Video Product for Time Warner Cable.
The 'B' button on your remote control will trigger the search function. Here you can look for a specific show, an actor or a movie title. Enter the name and a list will come up that will display all available listings including upcoming air-dates that you can use to set your DVR to record. Now, if you are watching live TV and tune in late to a show, you don’t have to miss out.
”Have you ever come into the middle of a show and wished you could have watch it from the beginning? Well, we have a feature called Start Over where you can just hit select on certain programs and it will start the program at the beginning just as if you came in at the beginning of the hour," Cottrell notes.
Just know, like when watching live, when you use Start Over you can’t fast forward. And it's not available on all channels. If you are watching a show On Demand and you need to stop, the bookmarking function allows you to pick up later from a different room or a different device.
“Customers will have shows that they are watching and they may need to get up and pick up later, and they will pause the show and they can then pick up later and start watching from the exact same place because we will remember on all the different platforms that we offer where they left off," says Cottrell.
