WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Winston-Salem city leaders officially welcomed people to Quarry Park Tuesday morning.

The new space features a freshwater lake, walking and hiking trails and a scenic overlook.

The park is meant to serve as a passive place for relaxation and observation.

Residents said they are happy to have a new place to play.

"We live a mile down the road from here and we've been waiting for this for a really long time and we will explore every inch of this place,” said resident Nikki Gregory.

Park officials said they anticipate adding more picnic areas and shelters to the park in the future.
