HIGH POINT -- Seven years ago, High Point's only methadone clinic closed, because of funding issues and there's an effort to open another one. Methadone is a drug used to treat drug addicts when they're trying to get clean. Alcohol and Drug Services's Medical Services director believes they will be able to provide another option.
"We do know statistically that patients who are not in methadone treatment or not in opioid replacement therapy or medication assistance,” said Anthony Steele with Alcohol and Drug Services. “They don't fair as well."
Steele says it would cost about $500,000 annually to keep the clinic running. They're hoping to have their application approved by the end of the year.
