WILKESBORO, N.C. -- Artists from across the world take the stage this weekend at the 32nd annual MerleFest.
- 80,000 fans are expected
- The Avett Brothers, Brandi Carlie, Amos Lee, and more are also expected
- Gates be open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
It's estimated that 80,000 fans will flood the town for some of the best bluegrass, Americana, and folk music out there. The influx of visitors makes the festival a major economic driver for the region.
“And it’s really fun because every year, there’s a new thing you can do. So we’ve started renting a camper to come and we do all four days. It’s just really cool to hang out with your friends and listen to awesome music,” Charlotte resident Molly Faulkner said.
Some of the many acts attending this year's festival are The Avett Brothers, Brandi Carlie, Amos Lee, and more.
"It's kind of the Big Daddy of bluegrass festivals," lead singer of The Trailblazers Daniel Thrailkill said.
Festival director Ted Hagaman says the money raised goes towards Wilkes Community College students. Since the beginning, the event has contributed more than $15 million toward the school.
Gates opened Thursday at 2:30 p.m. They will also open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
