The New York Times puzzle game "Connections" and "Olympics chocolate muffins" were among the most searched terms on Google this year. 

According to the tech giant’s annual list of top trending searches, the No. 1 search term overall in the United States in 2024 was “election,” followed by “Donald Trump,” “Connections,” “New York Yankees” and “Kamala Harris.”

Trump also topped the list of most popular people Google users searched for, followed by Kamala Harris, JD Vance, Joe Biden and Catherine, Princess of Wales, who disappeared from public view earlier this year and later revealed she had cancer.

Comedian Katt Williams was the most searched actor, followed by “Saltburn” actor Jacob Elordi, “Twisters” lead man Glen Powell, “The Bear” star Jeremy Allen White and comedian Shane Gillis.

Usher, who performed the Super Bowl halftime show, topped the list of most searched musicians this year, followed by Diddy, who was arrested in September in a federal sex trafficking case and is being held without bail. Kendrick Lamar, Drake and Justin Timberlake rounded out the top five. 

Lamar also had three of the top five most searched songs, topped by his Drake diss track “Not Like Us,” released in May.

Country music singer Toby Keith was the most searched person who died this year, followed by One Direction musician Liam Payne, former football star and acquitted murder suspect O.J. Simpson, Darth Vader actor James Earl Jones and Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan.

The Pixar film “Inside Out 2” was the most searched movie and Sophia Vergara’s “Griselda” was the most searched TV show, while Australian breakdancer Raygun’s competition at the Olympics was the most searched performance.
