ANAHEIM, Calif. — Following a 99-loss season in 2024, the Los Angeles Angels return to Angel Stadium this week with a renewed sense of optimism — and a 4-2 record to show for it.
After a series of offseason additions, including veteran catcher Travis d’Arnaud, the Angels are hoping 2025 marks the end of their 11-year postseason drought — the longest active streak in Major League Baseball.
D'Arnaud signed a two-year, $12 million deal in November. A Southern California native and former All-Star with the Atlanta Braves, he brings a World Series ring and a veteran presence to an Angels clubhouse in need of both.
“It’s special to have my family so close,” said d’Arnaud, who noted that his parents and in-laws live within minutes of the stadium, while his brother lives just blocks away.
While d’Arnaud will primarily back up starting catcher Logan O’Hoppe, he is expected to play a key role off the field as well — mentoring younger pitchers and helping to steady a team looking to establish a new identity under manager Ron Washington.
“The biggest thing is, I’m trying to be a glue guy and trying to keep everybody pulling on the same side of the rope,” d’Arnaud said.
