ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Magic have recalled forward Jonathan Isaac from their G League team in Lakeland, the team announced Friday on Twitter.

What You Need To Know

  • The Magic bring Jonathan Isaac back from his G League stint

  • For now, he will remain on the inactive list to continue conditioning work

  • Orlando did not indicate when Isaac could be activated

  • The forward hasn't played in an NBA game since Aug. 2, 2020 due to injuries

Isaac made his return to professional basketball on Jan. 11 with the Lakeland Magic after not playing in 892 days because of injury. He played in three games there, averaging 15.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.0 blocked shots in 17.7 minutes per game.

Orlando assigned Isaac to Lakeland to get him some in-game playing time to see how his body responded to that activity. Prior to that, he had been scrimmaging full-court, 5-on-5, for a few weeks.

He conceded after his first game in Lakeland that he “definitely got tired, so that’s something I’ve got to keep working on to have the impact that I want to.”

Isaac will remain on the inactive list for now “due to return to competition reconditioning,” the Magic’s tweet said.

They have not indicated when he will return to NBA action.

Orlando does not want to activate him until his conditioning makes it possible for him to play an NBA game without getting so tired that he risks reinjuring himself.

Orlando returned from a 10-day road trip out West earlier this week and could want additional time for Isaac to work out with the team, too. They play their first home game since the trip tonight against the New Orleans Pelicans and also play a game in Washington on Saturday so it’s unlikely he would return for that game. They play three home games and one road game next week so there could be time for Isaac to work out with the team then.

Isaac tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee while playing in the NBA’s bubble on Aug. 2, 2020. He missed the entire 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons and the first half of this season. He also underwent a surgical procedure on his right hamstring 10 months ago.
