One day after New Hampshire opened its presidential primary filing period, its secretary of state says a handful of candidates have submitted paperwork to participate in its primary vote next February. Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, a GOP candidate, was first to file on Wednesday, ensuring he will appear on the ballot.

His Republican competitors Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum also filed Thursday for the GOP nomination. Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is scheduled to file Friday morning.

Democratic candidate Marianne Williamson is scheduled to file Thursday afternoon, a New Hampshire Secretary of State representative told Spectrum News.

“We have not received a call from the Biden campaign about filing in the New Hampshire Presidential Primary,” the spokesman said.

President Joe Biden may not even be on the New Hampshire ballot because of a dispute between the Democratic National Committee and New Hampshire Democrats about which state would be first to hold a primary. For 100 years, New Hampshire has held the first primary vote of the season, but that is changing in 2024 when South Carolina kicks off the primaries with a vote February 3.

Democratic party leaders have said they will attempt to organize a write-in effort for Biden if he is not able to secure a place on the ballot for the New Hampshire primary February 6.

New Hampshire opened its presidential primary filing period Wednesday. It runs through October 27.
