RALEIGH—President Barack Obama's nominee for attorney general won't get support from her native North Carolina's new senator.
Republican U.S. Sen. Thom Tillis said Thursday he won't vote to confirm Loretta Lynch, partly because of the lawsuit filed by current Attorney General Eric Holder that challenges the state's voter photo identification law. Tillis is on the judiciary committee scheduled to decide later Thursday whether to recommend Lynch to the full Senate.
Tillis said it appears Lynch would represent little if any tangible policy difference from Holder. He says it also looks like Lynch would continue the Justice Department's lawsuit against North Carolina over a 2013 election overhaul passed by the General Assembly during Tillis' tenure as state House speaker.
Lynch is a Greensboro native and current New York federal prosecutor.
