Olathe, Kan. — Children of all ages came out to Black Bob Park on Tuesday, June 10, to see if they could be the first to catch a fish at the “Fishing with Cops” event in Olathe, Kan., which aims to build a positive relationship between the community and the Olathe Police Department.
Attendees learned how to put on the bait, cast the line, and reel the fish in once it is caught. The department says that this type of outreach program will build more trust within the community and make kids more comfortable around officers.
This is the first of seven events that the department will hold this summer. The next event, Glow Golf for Middle Schoolers, will be held on June 26 from 8 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at Black Bob Park.
