DRIPPING SPRINGS, Texas — Visitors are not allowed to get into waters at Hamilton Pool Preserve after high bacteria levels were discovered in the popular swimming hole, Travis County Parks officials said this week.
The closure is due to recent rain in the Austin area. It's unclear what kind of bacteria is present in the water.
“Whether swimming will be allowed depends on factors beyond our control, such as bacteria levels and recent rain,” a statement from Travis County Parks read.
The soonest swimming would be allowed is Friday, June 13, officials say.
Swimming at Hamilton Pool Preserve normally requires reservations. Those with a reservation have until midnight before their reservations to reschedule online.
The preserve, located 30 miles west of Austin, is still open to hiking and reservations are still required.
Falling rocks remain an issue at the preserve, so only a portion of the pool will be accessible once the pool reopens.
Hamilton Pool is a coveted destination for swimming, hiking and sight-seeing in Central Texas.
