A 31-year-old man is in custody after a standoff that shut down a section of the New York State Thruway on Thursday morning.

Anthony Caceres is charged with criminal possession of a weapon, menacing a police officer and obstruction.

State Police responded to reports of a vehicle off the road in the eastbound lane of the Thruway between the Henrietta and Victor exits shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday. Police reported that Caceres was in the car and was uncooperative and combative.

As state police tried to approach, one trooper said he saw what appeared to be the barrel of a gun pressed against the glass and pointed at him.

They were investigating a person with a gun between the Henrietta and Victor exits. The incident prompted police to shut down a portion of the Thruway in both directions for several hours early Thursday.

Troopers took cover and called for backup, leading to a shutdown of a portion of the Thruway.

A SWAT team was brought to the scene and quickly took Caceres into custody around 6 a.m. without incident.
