WISCONSIN — Summers are filled with opportunities to grill, s’mores by the campfire and even firework displays.

While fun, activities such as these can pose burn risks.

Dr. Patrick Shahan, the adult trauma director at UW Health, said many burn injuries can be prevented.

“So many injuries we see result from an accelerant being used on the fire,” he said. “Patients we see often say they can’t believe how fast it happened.”

UW Health offered these tips for those who plan to be near fires this summer:
