HERMANN, Mo.—More than 40 people were injured when a shuttle bus crashed into the woods off Highway 100 near Hermann Saturday morning, that is according to officials.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report says the bus driver drove off the right side of the road, overcorrected and over the left side of the road where it hit a ditch.
The Hermann Area Volunteer Fire Department posted on Facebook that its mass casualty incident response team was activated so additional resources could respond to the scene. Ten ambulances and a medical helicopter arrived on the scene. The Hermann Area District Hospital also activated its mass casualty protocol to help with an increase in patients. One patient was flown to a surrounding hospital.
The department says all patients were extricated and transported within 40 minutes of units arriving on the scene.
The crash report lists patients with injuries ranging from minor to serious. There were several passengers from the St. Louis and Kansas City areas, according to the report.
The road was closed for 2.5 hours and the Missouri Highway Patrol is investigating.
