LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Derby Week is heating up on the third day of racing. Crowds are larger, fashions are bolder, and the payouts are bigger as Thurby arrives at Churchill Downs.
The gates opened at 10:30 a.m. and Dutch Taylor was one of the first people at the track, beating the first raindrops.
“This is great, man. This is awesome,” Taylor said.
He traveled to Louisville from Houston, Texas, joining Kentucky relatives at the track.
“This is my second time out here,” Taylor said.
Thurby has expanded experiences, making a day at Churchill Downs even more vibrant. There are multiple photo booths and food vendors not offered during the first two days of racing this week.
“We just love the excitement and love the people and we’ve done it all. We’ve done Oaks. We’ve done Derby so we’ve got to do every day this week,” Sue Krischunis of Louisville said.
A family from Charlotte, North Carolina, also made their way to the track for Derby Week.
“My mom and my dad always wanted to go. So, I live in Charlotte, North Carolina, also. So, I just told them you’re coming with me this year,” Brian Hartman said.
“It’s going to be exciting, I think,” Bill Hartman, Brian’s father, said. “As long as my seat has a back on it so I can lean back! And we’re going to enjoy the heck out of it.”
