A deputy shot and killed a man after officials said he challenged them with a knife, according to a release.

Harnett County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a domestic call about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on the 3000 block of Neills Creek Road in Lillington, located about 50 minutes south of Raleigh.

There, a deputy found Leo Warren Reeves, 31, with a knife, and he was immediately told to drop it, the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office said.

When the man didn’t respond and moved toward him, the deputy shot Reeves. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries, officials said.

As per standard procedure, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation continues investigating the incident.

This marks the third shooting involving law enforcement in a week in North Carolina. Law enforcement officials in Alamance County said they shot a man Monday afternoon after he failed to follow with their commands, and he raised a gun at them, according to a news release.

A second person was shot by police Monday night during a traffic stop in south Charlotte. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers said the person was finally pulled over after “multiple traffic stop attempts.” It was then that police said the person got out of the vehicle and “officers perceived an imminent deadly threat.”
