GREENVILLE, S.C. — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a chicken treat for dogs has been recalled due to a potential salmonella contamination.
Carolina Prime Pet, Inc. voluntarily recalled its 16-ounce bags of “Hollywood Feed Carolina Made Chicken Chips” on Tuesday.
The North Carolina company said the recall only pertains to one lot of the treats with an expiration date of 11/13/25 and a lot number of 20051324L2.
The bags were distributed across South Carolina and 18 other states.
Pets infected with the bacteria can experience vomiting, lethargy, diarrhea, and fever. People can also become infected after having contact with the product.
“Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever,” wrote the FDA in a release.
