COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) will begin picking up roadside storm debris following the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
Pickup is scheduled to begin on Monday, Oct. 14. SCDOT officials are asking residents to place storm debris on the curb for pickup and to not block sidewalks or roadways.
They also ask that debris be separated into two piles: vegetative debris which includes fallen limbs and uprooted trees or plants and other storm debris which should not include chemical or hazardous materials.
“Those crews will first focus their attention to interstate and primary routes,” wrote SCDOT in a release. “As crews progress, they will then turn their attention to secondary and state-maintained neighborhood roads.”
The counties with debris removal processes in place are:
· Abbeville
· Aiken
· Anderson
· Barnwell
· Cherokee
· Edgefield
· Greenville
· Greenwood
· Laurens
· McCormick
· Newberry
· Oconee

Residents are encouraged to report any issues on state-maintained roadways by calling (855) 467-2368.
