CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. — It’s Day 2 of clean-up and the aftermath of a record storm in Carolina Beach.

What You Need To Know

  • The World Central Kitchen sponsored free meals for the T'Geaux Boys food truck on Wednesday

  • Poor Piggy's will serve on Thursday and the Catch seafood restaurant on Friday

  • Michelle Rock of T'Geaux said it's great to feed the community

Folks were picking up the pieces as some look to take the next step forward. Others simply want a bite to eat.

The T’Geaux Boys food truck served at least 200 meals at the corner of Third Street and Raleigh Avenue in Carolina Beach with the help of the World Central Kitchen

Owner and operator Michelle Rock whipped up her Cajun staples of red beans and rice, plus a couple more tasty options.

Rock harkened back to her Louisiana roots as she talked about what makes Cajun food so great.

“During the day, you can think about what you got in your pantry and what you can throw together. And it all goes good on rice. Sometimes you only cook something once in your entire life, and you don’t cook it again because you just cooked with what you got,” Rock said.

The World Central Kitchen, a global nonprofit organization providing food relief during extreme events, pays partners up front for the meals.

Historic rainfall and flooding on Monday heavily hit the area.

Rock said Sandie Orsa, a senior manager for WCK living on the coast, asked if she could lend a hand.

“Asked me if we could activate three food trucks for the next three days,” Rock said.

Clearly, Rock said yes and put the word out on Facebook.

Keith Woodson lives in Carolina Beach. Woodson said he moved into the town about a year ago. When he heard the news, Woodson rolled up on his bike with good intentions in his heart.

“We’ve got so much going on it’s just one less issue that people have to worry about. Guys down at the marina and those who are less fortunate, I am just taking it down and giving it to them,” Woodson said.

Which is what Rock is all about.

“Just sharing the love. Spreading the love. Letting everybody know that a little bit can help a lot and it really takes a village to take care of everybody,” Rock said.

Poor Piggy’s BBQ and Catering will serve food at the same location Thursday, followed by the Catch seafood restaurant food truck Friday.
