As March Madness arrives, this week host Tim Boyum takes a slight detour from politics to talk tobacco and basketball.

The North Carolina rivalries developed on “Tobacco Road” are in peril as conference realignment threatens to dramatically change college sports. Andrew Carter, with Raleigh News & Observer, recently wrote an article exploring the actual history of the real tobacco road, and how evidence of the state’s past agricultural history continues to fade away. The two then compare and contrast the modern sports version of Tobacco Road, and whether conference realignment will repeat history.

It inspired a lot of powerful stories and reminded Tim about the sense of community and larger human stories that often emerge from sports.
