MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Bucks are fortunate to have Jon Horst as their general manager. He’s always aggressive at the trade deadline and Thursday was no exception. He’s constantly looking for ways to make the Bucks better.
This year, he acquired former Marquette star Jae Crowder. He comes from the Brooklyn Nets just hours after being included in the blockbuster Kevin Durant deal from the Phoenix Suns.
I know Crowder is 32 and I know he hasn’t played this season. Still, if Crowder can help you win one playoff game with his defense and three-point shooting, it’s worth it.
I’m not worried about the five second-round picks. I’m not worried about George Hill, Serge Ibaka or Jordan Nwora.
When you have Giannis Antetokounmpo, you’re always a championship contender. Yes, the Bucks are on an eight-game winning streak right now. Horst is paid to see the big postseason picture. He obviously felt Crowder could help them in the spring more than those other assets.
We’ll see what Crowder can bring to the Bucks. From what I know about him as a competitor, he’ll be in shape. He’s the kind of guy who can help you get to the finals. He did that with the Miami Heat in 2020 and Phoenix in 2021.
No, he’s not a star. He doesn’t have to be with the Bucks — he just has to be who he always is and this will work. I love the effort.
