NC By Train is a NCDOT service that consists of two Amtrak routes called the Carolinian and the Piedmont. The department said 522,000 people climbed aboard the trains last year, which is a record high.

Passenger Chris Horne said his trip across the Triad costs him around $6. He enjoys the opportunity to relax and appreciate the scenery.

“I live in High Point. I like to forget about the gasoline and the cars and the stop signs and all the crazy drivers and take a trip to Greensboro where I work,” Horne said.

According to NCDOT, NC By Train offers service on eight trains that travel to 16 stations across the state. Six Piedmont trains offer service from Charlotte to Raleigh. Two Carolinian trains run back and forth from Charlotte to New York.
