Christmas trees can have a second life this year and make some farm animals very happy.
One Stokesdale family is collecting Christmas trees for their farm animals. They have over 50 pets ranging from chickens and donkeys to ducks and pigs.
Not only are the Christmas trees engaging for the animals during the winter months, but they also provide a great source of nutrients and antioxidants when eaten.
Farm owner Alex Reilly said it is a great way to properly dispose of them.
“Most of them will end up in a landfill or lots of folks will burn them, but if we can get as many as we can get because our animals are able to benefit from it, and it won’t end up in a landfill," Reilly said.
The mini farm is still collecting live Christmas trees, and you can drop them off at 8315 Prince Edward Rd., Stokesdale, NC 27357. The tree should be free of lights, ornaments, tinsel and any other decorations. You can also call Alex Reilly at 412-926-8921 if you'd like your Christmas tree picked up from your home.
