HIGH POINT, N.C. — A High Point man has come up with an idea to get the community together to create a cleaner environment.

Every day, Victor Jones walks his dog Rooster, and during that walk he carries a plastic bag to pick up trash he finds along the way.

Victor Jones always picks up a grocery bag full of trash on his walks

He hopes to keep the roads cleaner by making bins more easily accessible along walking routes

Stickers are available now at the Visit High Point office

Jones says he's always picking up beer cans, wrappers and other miscellaneous litter. While on his walks he normally doesn't feel comfortable throwing away his collection of trash into other people's bins, nor does he feel like walking a mile back to his house with a bag full of trash.

So, Jones created stickers that say "collaborative community cleanup," and then asked neighbors on the Nextdoor app if they would be OK with putting the stickers on their trash bins. The stickers would serve as permission to people like himself to drop their trash off in their bins on trash day.

It just keeps the roads clean and beautiful. It just keeps the roads clean and beautiful. It doesn’t take too much time out of your day. If people just did this once a week on trash day, there would be no more litter in our streets," Jones said.

Many of his neighbors in High Point and people in Greensboro have already picked up on the idea.

Jones said it could be great if his idea becomes a statewide or even nationwide trend.

If you'd like a sticker, you can pick one up at Visit High Point at 1634 N. Main St., Suite 102 in High Point.
