BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Some Brevard County students are learning how to build and launch their own rockets, just two days away from NASA's Crew-3 launch.
What You Need To Know
- Ahead of Crew-3 launch, Brevard students launched their own rockets
- The students learned how to build their own rockets and put them up
- Then the teams launched them to see which rocket performed best
- The rocket of one team went up 200 meters at launch
Imagine Schools sixth-grader Amelia Taylor and her team, "The Girl Squad," had the rocket they created ready to launch.
"We are going with a shorter nose and a pointier body, because it can go faster and soar through the air," Taylor explained.
She and her group competed against fellow students Friday to see how their creations perform.
"We'll be recording data on how far the rockets travel and how long they fly for," Imagine Schools STEAM Director Brendan Williams said.
After a little instruction, it was time to fly — a lot like the NASA Crew-3 team will launch to space this weekend.
Taylor and her team were up first. Their rocket went 200 meters.
"I think we might win, but I'm open to ideas if someone got further than us," Taylor said.
And that is a very big part of space travel, to always try to improve.
