GREENSBORO, N.C. — A North Carolina woman and her dance company are bridging the gap to get virtual learning devices to Guilford County School students in need.

What You Need To Know

  • Brittany Williams is the founder of iAlign Dance Company. Each year, they choose a topic they work into their choreography, final recital and community outreach.

  • Williams and iAlign's Laptop Give-In Program has been featured on Good Morning America, ABC World News and the Rachael Ray Show.

  • Lenovo donated 100 brand new laptops to Williams' initiative to give to students.

Brittany Williams, the iAlign Dance Company founder, first started collecting gently used laptops for her dance students learning from home. Once Williams saw the community's need, she created the Laptop Give-In Program to help more students.

“A lot of school decisions have been made to make sure students continue with their education, and we’re just doing what we can as a community group to make sure that the students have the devices that they need to support their education needs,” Williams says.

Each year, iAlign Dance Company chooses a different theme to address in their choreography and recital. This year they chose bullying, which Williams says stems from a lack of resources. As their community outreach, iAlign continues to collect and give out laptops to students.

“We’re able to make sure that students have the resources they need to one-stop bullying but also spread the word that most folks in our community did not know such great need was pertinent in our communities for our students,” she says.

Williams and iAlign were in for a big surprise earlier this year. The Rachael Ray Show donated 100 brand-new Lenovo laptops to iAlign’s initiative.

“I’m just happy to be able to shed light on that, that yes, there are a lot of things that have been done, but there’s so much more work and so much more support that we can give the students in our community,” she says.

Williams says she will keep giving out laptops until the need is met. They’ve given away more than 600 laptops in six months. To find out more about iAlign’s Laptop Give-In Program, click here.
