What You Need To Know

  • George Harrison was a photojournalist for nearly 40 years.

  • After retiring, he started his own YouTube channel for still photography.

  • Harrison has been collecting cameras since he was a teenager.

  • His videos have inspired others to pick up photography.

George Harrison worked as a photojournalist for a local news station for more nearly 40 years, but he says still photography has always been his first love. The Asheboro native bought his first camera when he was a teenager.

“I wanted to work for National Geographic, and the reason why, you get to travel all over the world, and see cool, interesting things,” Harrison says.

After Harrison retired, he had more time to devote to his photography. While searching on YouTube, he couldn’t find the specific videos he wanted reviewing cameras, so he decided to do it himself. Harrison started creating videos and posting them to his YouTube channel.

“I couldn’t find videos of someone actually taking the camera out, shooting it, saying ‘this is what it can do, this is what it can’t’,” he says.

The camera reviews quickly branched out to tutorials on how to snap different shots. Harrison also documents various events around the Triad, including his lifelong Asheboro home.

“Anything I do in Asheboro’s got to be my favorite video, because Asheboro’s the greatest city in the world,”Harrison says.

Harrison’s online videos have caught international attention. Avid photographers in different parts of the world watch his content. Harrison says he’s always willing to learn more about his passion.

“I don’t care if you’ve been doing something ten minutes or ten years, you always can learn something new,” he says.
