MELBOURNE, Fla. – We're getting a lot of questions about what trick-or-treating will look like this Saturday. So we’ve headed out to our local zoos for a friendly “battle of the boos” and learned techniques you can use this weekend at home.
1. The Brevard Zoo in Melbourne is once again hosting Boo at the Zoo. Little trick-or-treaters will stand at one end of a decorated tube as a staff member “shoots” down several packages of candy. “We're pretty proud of the event that we were able to put together given our financial and our social distancing constraints,” said communications manager Elliot Zirulnik.
2. Want to show off your costume? Instead of an on-site contest, the Zoo is hosting a virtual contest for the chance to win a prize package valued at up to $130. Three winners are chosen every week. To enter, take your picture with the BOO sign inside the Zoo entrance and share your costume on social media using the hashtag #AvtecBoo. The Oct. 31 theme is Best Not-Too-Scary Costume.
3. This year, guests can participate in activities on the Monarch Migration Trail, embark on a scavenger hunt through the Zoo, pose with themed photo ops, listen to music, and, of course, enjoy all of the Zoo animals.
4. Boo at the Zoo runs Oct 31, 2020 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
5. Zoo Boo Bash at the Central Florida Zoo is now over. However, they got super creative this year at their treat stations. “We have a hole at the bottom [of Plexi glass],” spokesperson Stephanie Williams showed us. “We're using the grabbers [to give out candy] that normally you're picking up trash with.” (Those grabbers were sanitized). Happy Trick-or-Treating!
