BURLINGTON, N.C. — Minor League baseball teams in the region are making some major adjustments as the landscape of the sport changes.
All 11 teams in the Appalachian League, including the Burlington Royals, will go through a rebrand this winter in time for a newly formatted summer season.
Leaders with the team say things were touch-and-go for The Royals for the last year as negotiations went on, but now that their standing is secure, the Burlington Baseball Stadium will live to see another season.
Their communities will welcome some of the best freshman and sophomore college players from around the country for a 54-game season.
Leaders say they're excited for this new chapter.
"It's really going to help Burlington baseball, Alamance county, and the Appalachian league continue to be recognized in not only a regional scale but potentially a national scale as well. Burlington baseball is a really big part of the growing of baseball from a universal perspective and that's really exciting for us," says Burlington Baseball Team President Ryan Keur.
The Burlington Royals will start accepting fan submissions for its new name this week on all of its social media platforms and the team website.
