The Worcester School Committee unanimously approves a reopening plan where all students will start with remote learning. Their decison made just in time as all school districts needed to submit their proposals to the state on Friday. Families can also choose for their kids to be remote for the entire year. Teachers will have the choice to teach remotely from either their classrooms or their homes. While the earliest any student would return to school is november, school committee member Tracy O'Connell Novick says, it's important to increase the availability of covid testing and contact tracing first.
"We should be able to say, you have symptoms, there's a place you can go and get tested, so the schools aren't actually the epicenter of spreading."
Students will be put into three groups based on their educational needs. Those who require the most in-person support could return to classrooms after the first quarter.
