LINCOLNTON, N.C. -- If you take a walk by First Federal Park in Lincolnton, you will see that a colorful mural has been painted on the street.

"United We Stand" was painted over the weekend by volunteers.

The mural represents the LGBTQ, Black, and Hispanic communities in town, which designer Demarius Pearson says are underrepresented.

Each letter is painted in different colors; different shades of skincolor, colors of the Latin-American country's flag colors, and rainbow colors for LGBTQ.

Pearson pitched the mural to city council which passed it.

"This is more about people in general, honestly instead of skintones, but we express the art through skintones, and colors that people like, kids love, this is something that should be done everywhere, honestly," says artist Rashod Douglas, who helped with the layout.

The town hopes to develop that area as family friendly and possibly hold concerts and food truck events in the future.
