SEAGROVE, N.C. – This weekend, potters in Seagrove are opening their doors and hoping that customers are ready to visit.

The Spring Showcase was cancelled due to COVID-19, so organizers planned a shop tour instead of a large gathering. That way both the customers and potters can keep business going in a safe way.

“This is an important thing. Of course, we want to be safe. We want to do it in the safest manner that we can. That’s really important,” Fred Johnston says. He is the president of the Seagrove Area Potters Association.

There are around 65 members of the association. Johnston says many have figured out ways to keep sales going, like turning to social media and adding sales options to their websites.

“Artists are problem solvers, and necessity is the mother of invention. So, potters throughout the ages have had to adapt, and this time is no different,” Johnson says.
