NORTH CAROLINA -- Summer internships may look a little different this year.

The National Association of Colleges and Employers reports 59 percent of companies don't plan on canceling summer internships in light of the coronavirus but 45 percent plan to move them online.

These recent developments mean significant changes for Parker Dewey, a company that connects students, schools, and companies for internships and contract work.

The founder and CEO says he's encouraging companies to adjust their approach and think about micro-internships.

"Micro-internships are essentially short-term paid professional projects that are comparable to tasks or assignments that would be given to an intern or a new hire," he says.

According to him, schools are looking to alumni now more than ever to preserve work experience opportunities for students.
