GREENSBORO, N.C. –  We've seen restaurants and markets across the state find ways to offer delivery services over the past few weeks, but most of the time that delivery is by car.

Greensboro's Deep Roots Market wanted to find a way to help people who can't make it out to the store without growing its carbon footprint. They've started a delivery service by bike.

The co-op market has been around since the 1970s, but this is the first time it's offered grocery delivery.

Customers can order directly from the market's site with no added fee and one of a handful of volunteers will deliver the order to their home.

Organizers say they're focusing mainly on the downtown area and other nearby neighborhoods because there are not many safe ways to bike to farther suburban areas.

One of the co-op's board members, who also happens to be a bike enthusiast, says he's happy to help people during this uncertain time.

The market is currently filling between five and 30 delivery orders per day.
