NORTH CAROLINA — The state's passenger rail service will begin further reducing its daily number of trips on Monday, April 6.

The NCDOT made the announcement on Friday, saying the reduction is in response to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

According to an updated statement, Carolinian trains 79 and 80 will cease operation until MAy 4. Piedmont trains 75 and 76 will be running one daily round trip between Raleigh and Charlotte.

In a previous announcement, officials said Piedmont trains 73, 74, 77 and 78 will not operate until further notice.

NCDOT says Amtrak will also change fees on all existing or new reservations made prior to April 30. Trip modifications can be made on Amtrak.com.

To cancel reservations with no fee however, passengers must call 800-BY-TRAIN and speak with an agent (not available via Amtrak.com or the app).
