WORCESTER - Hundreds of people waited in a long line outside of Worcester's Registry of Motor Vehicles [RMV] branch on Wednesday morning.
Due to a number of changes by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation's [MASSDOT], including the implementation of a "ten at a time" policy at the Worcester RMV, a line wrapped around the building on Main St.
The Worcester branch is one of seven RMV locations open to customers across the state. The facilities were selected by size, geography and accessibility. The others open are Boston/Haymarket, Brockton, Fall River, Lawrence, Pittsfield, and Plymouth.
MassDOT has asked that customers who do not have immediate needs for required in-person services to delay their visits, and to not bring other people with them.
“The RMV is trying to offer necessary in-person transactions while striking a balance between protecting the health and safety of the public,” said Acting Registrar Jamey Tesler. “Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, in-person transactions will be conducted in keeping with guidelines from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) and Commonwealth’s COVID-19 Response Command Center.
The RMV's AAA locations will continue to offer some services to AAA members and road tests will be suspended indefinitely.
At least 25 staff members are working at the Worcester location today. The RMV is open normal hours from 9 AM to 5 PM Monday-Friday.
