GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Ever since she joined the Greensboro Fire Department around three years ago, Brittany King hasn’t looked back.

  • Now she and her fellow female firefighters are looking to inspire the next group of girls
  • This summer, they’re holding the first Camp Spark
  • The camp is a free, four-day experience for high school-age girls. They’ll learn what it takes to be a firefighter, and also hear from other women working in male-dominated fields

“This is definitely the best job on the planet. I can’t imagine myself doing anything else, and we get the opportunity every single day to help members of our community,” King said.

Now she and her fellow female firefighters are looking to inspire the next group of girls. This summer, they’re holding the first Camp Spark.

The camp is a free, four-day experience for high school-age girls. They’ll learn what it takes to be a firefighter, and also hear from other women working in male-dominated fields.

“I always say that representation is very important, and in order to foster a better sense of inclusion, I think it’s great for these young girls to get to meet us and see that we exist.”
