GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament begins Wednesday at the Greensboro Coliseum.

  • The Greensboro Convention and Visitors Bureau predicts the women’s tournament to bring in $5.5 million alone
  • It also estimated the ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament, set to begin the following week, could bring in $17.25 million
  • Later this month, the Gate City will host the first couple rounds of the NCAA Tournament, bringing in an additional $5 million

That means over the month, Greensboro could see an economic impact of close to $28 million through the three major basketball tournaments.

The President of the CVB said that impact is enormous for Greensboro, also known as “Tournament Town.”

“That’s a good sizable amount of income for the Greensboro community,” Henri Fourrier said.

He says hotels, restaurants, and shops are most likely to benefit.

The President of the Guilford County Association of Hotels said some hotels were booked solid three months out.

“It’s time for us to shine and both Greensboro and North Carolina- hospitality is in our roots, so the hotels are ready to embrace the opportunity,” Rubio said.
