CARTERET COUNTY — Morehead City is selling its 1940s-era City Hall building at 706 Arendell Street.
- This decision is part of a plan to consolidate government offices throughout the town to one new building
- Natives and local historians Bob Guthrie and Rodney Kemp said change throughout the town is inevitable
- The building is up for bids, with one offer of $300,000 on the table
This decision is part of a plan to consolidate government offices throughout the town to one new building, which will be located at the double block of 11th and Bridges Streets.
“Right now, we’re working out of three different administrative buildings. We have the municipal building, we have the old city hall, and then we rent a building next to the city hall,” said Town Manager Ryan Eggleston.
Natives and local historians Bob Guthrie and Rodney Kemp said change throughout the town is inevitable, and if the building is sold, they would like to see its facade kept the same.
“I don’t object to them selling it, but I would sort of like to know what the new owners would like to do with it,” said Guthrie.
The building is up for bids, with one offer of $300,000 on the table.
