GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Logan Sweatt never really went to gyms to work out.

She has sacral agenesis, a disability which affects her spine, and she says she was worried about finding the right fit.

About six months ago she decided to try CrossFit Versatile.

She says she was “nervous, worried that I might be judged or looked at differently, and it was the total opposite. This gym is one of the few places in the world where I don't’ feel judged at all.”

Sweatt is the gym’s first adaptive athlete. Now she goes at least three times a week, and her dog Jager is always by her side.

Jager is a German Shepherd, trained in mobility assistance, who Sweatt has had him for five years.

“When I got him it was really a life-changer for me because, although I do live independently, he gave me a different sense of independence and he gives me a sense of confidence.”

A few months ago, Jager became really sick. He had a surgery that didn’t go well and one night Logan thought she might lose him.

“He’s been diagnosed with some intestinal problems, where essentially he had so much inflammation that he wasn’t able to process food properly and he dropped weight. But now with the right treatment, he’s gaining weight and back on the track to recovering his health.”

Sweatt works a full-time job but the costs of Jager’s illness added up. That’s when her CrossFit community decided to step in.

They planned a fundraiser for January 18, an in-house competition between teams. There’re no prizes. It’s just a chance to help out a friend.

If you’d like to be involved, you can go to the fundraiser on Saturday, January 18 at CrossFit Versatile or donate directly here.
