WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.— 107 archers were in Winston-Salem this weekend for the North Carolina State Championships. Some of the young competitors could be future Olympians.

The USA Archery State Representative for North Carolina, Guy Hutcherson, said this is the first time Winston-Salem won the bid to host the state tournament. He said now that the city has that under its belt, it has a chance to host the nationals.
"The indoor nationals is throughout the winter at different venues,” Hutcherson explained. “The outdoor nationals is hosted, one venue. And that is something that Winston has bid on before, but didn't get. But hopefully by getting their foot in the door with the state, we can get a national event here."
107 archers competed at the Fairgrounds, this weekend. That number sets a record for the state tournament.
