DENTON, NC--- Things at the Denton FarmPark will be a little different this year without their visionary and owner.

  • Gordon Brown Loflin died on September 10 at the age of 84.
  • Park has been in operation for 40 years.
  • Has hosted events like County Christmas Train, Southeast Old Threshers Reunion, and Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver Bluegrass Festival.

A memorial is set up this year at the Denton FarmPark to honor the life of Gordon Brown Loflin, also known as "Brown." He died of Lymphatic cancer on September 10, 2019 at the age of 84.

His nephew, Tim Loflin, said the FarmPark was always a dream of his and they hope to keep going.

"It's hard but he laid a hard foundation here, a lot of work and he's taught us all what to do here," Loflin said.

For 40 years, the family owned historical park has been a staple in the community. It has brought people together for all different events like the County Christmas Train, Southeast Old Threshers Reunion, and Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver Bluegrass Festival.

"What you see on this mile and a half track and inside the park is a visionary of a dream that he had, it's nothing someone drew out on paper and all it's all about that dream that he had," Loflin said.

Something his family will never forget, and will keep them excited for the future.

"We're going to move forward to keep his dream alive," Loflin said.

The Country Christmas Train event at Denton Park celebrates its 11th Anniversary this year. It will go on every weekend, and select weeknights through December 27. For more information you can visit https://dentonfarmpark.com/.
