GSC bus drivers are planning a possible strike to demand higher wages.
The district's CFO says it already gave drivers a $250 bonus in October and plans to give another bonus in December.
But, as for regular wages, the district says that's the state's job.
"When we add up the dollar bonuses that they're receiving this year, I think it adds up to at least what a step is on their salary schedule," says Angie Henry, Chief Financial Officer of Guilford County Schools. "I feel like we've done what we can. The board has certainly heard their concerns and tried to address their concerns."
The district says it will not cancel class even if the drivers do strike. It's working on a plan for how to get everyone to school, which could include other staff with proper licenses driving the buses.
The CFO says administrators haven't discussed yet whether to excuse student absences those days.
