  • Someone drove through their fields leaving deep tracks behind, and killing a lot of their crops.
  • Combined, the two told us, they are looking at about $10,000 in repairs, along with the majority of their hard work now lost.
  • Deputies say whoever is responsible can be charged criminally and be responsible for paying all damages. If you have a tip about this crime, you are encouraged to call the Crimestoppers Hotline at 336-349-9683.

David Collins and Mitch Mitchell were shocked to find out their farms had been vandalized. Someone drove through their fields leaving deep tracks behind, and killing a lot of their crops.

Both of their farms are located along Dan Valley road.

"This is money I won't earn this year. This type of malicious damage is strictly uncalled for, this was not an accident, somebody did this on purpose," Collins said.

"This is a small tight knit farming community and you just don't think somebody would do this," Mitchell told us.

Collins is a hay farmer, and Mitchell farms sod for his income.

"We take this job very seriously this is our livelihood," Collins explained.

"I think most people don't realize it's tough to make a living farming, I mean its something you do because you love it," Mitchell said passionately.

Combined, the two told us, they are looking at about $10,000 in repairs, along with the majority of their hard work now lost.

"At this time replanting seeds, they should already be up it's not going to produce a crop for the upcoming harvest season," Collins said.

The Rockingham County Sheriffs Office is currently investigating. Public Information Officer, Sgt. Kevin Suthard told us they are following up on leads.

"We are increasing patrol in the area, keeping a good eye out there and both marked and unmarked vehicles, we're hoping that someone will come forward with information for who's responsible for damaging these farmlands," Suthard said.

Deputies say whoever is responsible can be charged criminally and be responsible for paying all damages. If you have a tip about this crime, you are encouraged to call the Crimestoppers Hotline at 336-349-9683.
