GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Just eight years after the center first opened, the fourth pool at the Greensboro Aquatic Center is up and ready for use.
- The addition of 19 lanes makes the Greensboro Aquatic Center the largest indoor center in the country
- The new pool is expected to benefit both the center and city by providing more space for Triad programs
- The cost of construction was $8.3 million, which was funded by hotel occupancy revenues
The addition of 19 lanes makes the Greensboro Aquatic Center the largest indoor center in the country.
"With the ability of warming up so many lanes here at the training pool it allows the competition pool to have much cleaner air and enjoyable space for people that are spectators," Matt Brown, the Greensboro Coliseum Complex's managing director said.
The new pool is expected to benefit both the center and city by providing more space for Triad programs.
"That's been one of the issues is finding enough time to get the local swim teams enough time for lane practice. So this fourth pool is really going to help with that," Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan said.
The cost of construction was $8.3 million, which was funded by hotel occupancy revenues. Brown and Vaughan expect those large economic numbers to continue.
