NATIONWIDE -- The Better Business Bureau issued a warning about an email scam that people are falling victim to.

It's called "Sextortion."

People receive an e-mail claiming to have images or videos of them watching pornography or engaging in other compromising activities. Often, the scammers will say they have activated a webcam without the person knowing about it.

The email may also contain personal information about contacts using information stolen in major security breaches. The con artist will then demand payment in exchange for not releasing the pictures. The Better Business Bureau said the threat is almost always an empty one and the images probably do not exist.

Anyone that receives an email like this can report it to the FBI and on the BBB's scam tracker website.
