The zoo announced Sunday that their chimpanzee Amy is pregnant. Amy is a 35-year-old chimpanzee that was born at the North Carolina Zoo.

The zoo released the news on World Chimpanzee Day. They say their veterinary team is closely monitoring the development of the baby.

Curator Jennifer Ireland has been working with Amy for 21 years now. She says Amy did great with her first son, Gus, who's now 5 years old.

The veterniary team can not yet tell with the ultra sound if the baby is a boy or girl yet. However, Ireland says its very helpful that chimps closely resemble humans, even when it comes to pregnancy.
